Rules
Rules of the Race
Racers will not be provided verbal clues by volunteers at any time. The only authorized clues will be written and provided in envelopes. You will need to follow directions given in clues. (If a challenge would need to be altered due to circumstances unforeseen, volunteers will inform teams of any changes as they arrive).
Racers need to read the clues completely and carefully and then listen and watch for details throughout the race. A keen thought, ear and eye may save valuable time during the race.
Safety is of vital concern to all of us. The rule on speeding is that racers will not exceed 5 miles per hour over the speed limit. If the volunteers observe racers exceeding the speed limit by 7 miles per hour, you will be penalized time for the next day’s start. Think about it, getting a speeding ticket in itself will be a penalty because it will delay you 15 to 30 minutes. Racers are responsible for their safety as well as for other vehicles on the road!
You are not allowed to use personal cell phones, computer, GPS, OnStar or other “life lines” to gather clues. We understand that you may have your personal cell phones with you in the case of emergency calls. You are on your honor - we trust that you will obey this rule. The only allowable “life line” is a good old fashioned map(s) or atlas.
The Team that turns in the most money above their $500 entry fee will be awarded a special bonus. Extra monies will be accepted up to the day of the race.
Each day, several prizes will be awarded to the racers. It may be the “turtle award” for the slowest team of the day, it may be the “lucy award” for the goofiest thing that happened during the day, or it may be one of any number of awards. The Grand Prize will be awarded to the first racing team to cross the Finish Line at the high school on Sunday.
As we start the race, each racing team will receive a banner. When given the appropriate signal, you will race to your cars, place the banner in the lower right corner of the front window, and then one racer must return to the conference room to receive your first clue. You are now on your own.
HAVE FUN, BE SAFE, & MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN!!
